The Amazing World of Gumball: Their Version of the VeggieTales Theme Song

This is the show, The Amazing World of Gumball's version of the VeggieTales Theme Song. Gumball is playing the role of Bob the Tomato, and Darwin is playing the role of Larry the Cucumber.

Openings

The first opening begins with the opening credits appearing over a “white void” background with the following text:

• Cartoon Network productions present. (Gumball is behind the letter N on the right, and Darwin behind the letter C on the left)
• The Amazing World of Gumball. (The show's logo)

Gumball Watterson and Darwin Watterson talk offscreen while the credits fade in and out onscreen. The conversation consists of Gumball and Darwin figuring out how Darwin should perform the theme song. Gumball suggests that Darwin play it on a guitar, but Darwin reminds him that he doesn't have any fingers to pluck or press the strings. Gumball then ambiguously suggests another unnamed instrument, but Darwin refuses because he thinks it will make him look silly. Gumball tries to tell him that will be fun, but Darwin replies, "Nope, not gonna do it". Once Gumball reminds him that they’re doing this for the kids watching, Darwin agrees to perform the song, but he says the kids would better not laugh at him. Darwin then pops his head into view from the left side of the screen with a large sousaphone, finally revealing the instrument alluded to before. He smiles at the viewers, hops to the center of the white void, and finally begins playing the intro of the song (with a couple mistakes here and there).

What follows is Gumball running into frame, singing the song and swaying along with his fish friend on the right. He sings "If you like to talk to blue kittens, if a cloud can make you shy..." Masami Yoshida the Cloud then floats to the left, winks at the viewers, and sways to the music. Gumball then sings "If you like to waltz with young Britons, up and down Elmore Junior High!", and Masami enjoys the song. After Gumball finishes his first verse, he leans into the camera with a big, toothy grin and says his iconic line, “Have we got a show for you”. Darwin and Masami both lean into view from behind Gumball and nodding their heads with smiles.

It then transitions to a clip montage played over an up-tempo chorus of male and females voices. The montage features clips from the show, followed by three refrains of the chorus. At the end of each refrain, it cuts from the clip montage to a shot of more Elmore citizens joining Gumball, Darwin, and Masami in the white void. Gumball and Darwin's father, Richard, their mother Nicole, and their little sister, Anais, join at the end of the first refrain. Second, Rocky Robinson the orange puppet janitor, Principal Nigel Brown the strict, furry slug principal of Elmore Junior High School, Miss Lucy Simian the old, cranky, strict ape school teacher, Tina Rex, Carrie Krueger The Ghost (who's angry), Leslie the Flower, Idaho the Potato, Clayton the red clay ball, Gumball's girlfriend, Penny Fitzgerald, the peanut shelled cheerleader, Banana Joe, Tobias Wilson the rainbow school jock in the green head band, Anton the Toast, Mr. Steve Small the white haired school counselor, Bobert 6B the Robot, Juke the gray human with the boom box head, Molly the black Sauropod, and Ocho Tootmorsel the angry 8-bit spider join at the end of the second refrain, along with Alan Keane the Saint Teal Balloon and his girlfriend, Carmen Verde the Intelligent Cactus, who are holding hands. Third and finally, Larry Needlemeyer the rock store clerk with the hat, green shirt, and orange tie, the blue Pants Bully in the underwear, Jamie Russo the orange-haired troglodyte cow, Colin and Felix the twin nerd Eggmans, the small yellow tree librarian, Sussie the weird chin puppet, Rob, Gary Hedges the senior purple moose, Penny's parents, Granny Jojo (Gumball's grandmother), William the flying green eyeball with wings, Joe's parents, Tobias' parents, the strawberry frosted Doughnut Sheriff, Sal Left Thumb the thumb print, masked criminal, the brown haired Hobo, Donald the mustached brown, senior citizen in the detective's hat, Marvin Finklehimer the old, red bean, Betty the old green chalkboard lady, Louie the senior citizen black mouse, Gumball and Darwin's grumpy old neighbor, Mr. Robinson the stone polyester puppet with the glasses and professional outfit, his completely evil, ugly, yucky wife Mrs. Robinson (only coming to see the others fail), and even Hector the purple, orange, and yellow giant join the at the end of the third refrain. The tempo increases with each refrain.

After more clips are played, it transitions to the bridge, leading to the end of the song where we see the Elmore Citizens altogether in the white void exclaiming "It’s time for The Amazing World of Gumball!", followed by lots of confetti pieces falling by them as they sing. As the song finally ends, Darwin runs out of breath while playing his sousaphone and faints. He wakes up plays one final bum note, which blows some confetti out of the sousaphone’s bell. Some of it flies into Masami's, Alan's, and Carmen's faces, making them all shield their eyes. All the Elmore look at the camera and happily smile as children are heard laughing from offscreen, but only as Gumball laughs silently. Before that, Gumball, Masami, Anais, Nicole, Brown, Simian, Rocky, Carrie, Tina, Leslie, Idaho, Leslie, Penny, Joe, Tobias, Anton, Small, Bobert, Juke, Molly, Ocho, Alan, Carmen, and the others look at Darwin straight, but Richard looks at him crooked.

Lyrics

[The scene begins with Gumball and Darwin getting ready for the song]

Gumball: Okay, Darwin, it's time for the theme song.

Darwin: Uh, yeah, Gumball. What do I do while you and the others sing?

Gumball: Hmm, okay, well, how about this? You play the guitar.

Darwin: Gumball, I don't have any fingers to pluck or press the strings, just fins.

Gumball: Oh, you're right. Okay, okay, uh, you play this. [holds up a tuba, or a sousaphone]

Darwin: [refuses] Oh, I don't wanna play that! I'd look silly!

Gumball: Oh, come on! It'll be fun!

Darwin: [crosses his flippers] Nope! Not gonna do it!

Gumball: It's for the kids.

Darwin: [changes his mind] Oh, okay. But they'd better not laugh. [takes the sousaphone]

Gumball: Okay, it's time now. You'd better go on out there.

[Darwin pops up in front of the viewers with his tuba nervously. He smiles happily at them, then runs into the center, and starts to play notes F, C, F, C, F, C]

Gumball: [sings the first line of the song and stands next to Darwin on the right] ♪If you like to talk to blue kittens, if a cloud can make you shy...♪

[Masami appears on the left side on the camera, winks, and joins Gumball and Darwin]

Gumball: ♪If you like to waltz with young Britons, Up and down Elmore Junior High!♪

[Darwin briefly stops playing his tuba, and Masami enjoys the song. Gumball points to the viewers]

Gumball: [spoken] Have we got a show for you!

[Darwin and Masami nod in agreement. An episode sequence begins with a small monster coming out of the drawer dresser in Gumball and Darwin's room]

Gumball, Darwin, and Masami: ♪The Amazing World of Gumball!♪ [The sequence next shows Gumball and Darwin teaching Anais that she didn't have to be afraid of Rob by singing a song, called God is bigger than the Boggie Man] ♪The Amazing World of Gumball!♪ [The sequence next shows Rob sadly singing along] ♪The Amazing World of Gumball, The Amazing World of Gumball!♪

[The sequence then shows the pants bully, the Hobo, and Sal Left Thumb singing "Oh, no! What are We gonna do!" while playing the Wisemen wondering what to do with Daniel, played by Darwin]

[The episode sequence now shows Gumball and Darwin dancing on the same boat earlier and singing "Some Children Went to Sea"]

Gumball: ♪ Fish that go!♪ [the sequence shows Jamie Russo singing the gang of wrath while riding in a car with Leslie. She then throws a snake into William's smoothie nearby] ♪ Banana Joe!♪ [The snake pops out of William's smoothie, scaring him] ♪ You gotta know...♪

[Back in the white background, Gumball and Darwin's father, Richard, pops up on the left side, their mother, Nicole, pops up on the right side, and their little sister, Anais, hangs upside down, and they all join Gumball, Darwin, and Masami in the song]

Watterson Family and Masami: ♪ The Amazing World... of Gumball! ♪ [They all smile, showing their teeth]

[Darwin continues playing his sousaphone, and the episode sequence continues and shows Gumball running through the island to the left]

Anais: ♪Balloons talking!♪ [the sequence shows Gumball and Darwin screaming as their boat's about to crash into a rock by an island, with their pupils shrinking] ♪Cacti walking!♪ [the sequence shows Gumball running through the island to the right] ♪Ghosts stalking!♪

[Back in the white background, Rocky the school janitor, Principal Brown, Miss Simian the school teacher, Tina Rex, an angry Carrie, Leslie, Idaho, Clayton, and Gumball's girlfriend, Penny, appear on the left side with Richard and Masami and join the song, while Banana Joe, Tobias, Anton, Mr. Small the school counselor, Bobert, Juke, Molly, and Ocho appear on the right side with Nicole and Anais and also join the song. Just like Anais, Idaho, Clayton, and Ocho are also hanging upside down]

Watterson Family, School Students, and School Staff: ♪ The Amazing World... [Alan and his girlfriend Carmen pop up on the right holding hands and also join the song] ...of Gumball!♪ [Everyone smiles again. Carrie changes her angry frowned into a smile, except she still has her angry eyebrows and her crossed arms]

[As Darwin plays more notes, he sings his own verse, the tempo increases, and the episode sequence shows Jamie chasing after William up and down the hills]

Darwin: ♪Grumpy Stones! Work to bones!♪ [The sequence shows Rob jumping down from Gumball and Darwin's bedroom ceiling right in front of them and Anais, and Anais screams in terror at him] ♪Happy Zones!♪

[Back in the white void, Larry Needlemeyer, the Pantsbully, Jamie, Colin and Felix, Donald, Marvin, the Hobo, the Librarian, Sussie, Rob, Gary Hedges, the Penny's parents, and Granny Jojo appear on the left side, William, Joe's parents, Tobias' parents, the Donut Sheriff, Sal Left Thumb, Betty, Louie, Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, and even Hector appear on the right]

As Darwin plays more notes, the episode sequence shows him playing Daniel and getting carried towards the Lion's Den by Sal]

[The sequence finally shows Anais, being scared of the scary show she watched, running into her and her brothers' room, slamming the door in fear]

All: ♪There's never, ever been a show like The Amazing World of Gumball!♪

[Back in the white void, Nicole is now in the left group between Richard and Granny Jojo, and Idaho, Clayton, Anais, and Ocho are now standing on the ground right side up. Everyone but Darwin still playing his tuba spreads their arms out]

All: ♪It's time for The Amazing...♪ [On the right side, Alan is spreading out his balloon string and still using it to hold Carmen's hand at the same time, making her right arm higher than her left] ♪...World of...♪ [Everyone sways in celebration, and Darwin sways faster] ♪...Gumball!♪

[Confetti rains down, Gumball, Anais, Rocky, Carrie, Tina, Idaho, Clayton, Joe, Tobias, Anton, Mr. Small, Bobert, Juke, Molly, Ocho, the Pantsbully, Colin, Felix, Donald, Marvin, the Librarian, Sussie, Rob, Gary, Penny's parents, Granny Jojo, Joe's parents, Tobias' parents, the sheriff, Sal, the Hobo, Betty, Louie, and Hector sway normally, Richard and Nicole still have their arms spread out, Principal Brown and Miss Simian hold their fists to their chests in unity, Leslie moves his head up and down, Penny holds up her pom-poms, Masami closes her eyes happily, Larry sings with his hand over his heart, Jamie happily runs in place, Mr. Robinson catches his voice in his hand to avoid singing too loud, Mrs. Robinson angrily grumbles about the other citizens not failing, which is what she only came here for, and shows dislike of the confetti, William happily flaps his wings, and Alan and Carmen lean side to side while they're still holding hands]

[As the citizens finish singing, Darwin suddenly loses his breath from playing his sousaphone with his pupils shrinking. He faints and falls backwards onto the floor]

Darwin: [hurt] Ouch!

[Gumball, Masami, and the other Elmore citizens look at Darwin in concern. He wakes up and plays one final note, making confetti fly out of his sousaphone's bell, and he sits back up and smiles nervously at the audience.]

Trivia

• Hot Dog Guy, Green Bear, Mushroom, Tobias' mean older sister Rachel, the Shooting Star, the Cupcake Woman, and Rexy are the only Season 1 characters who didn't appear in the theme song at all. At first, Teri and Baconman didn't appear in the song either.
  • This is because Teri is a piece of paper, she could blow away, she was a terrible singer, compared to both Alan and Carmen who were both really good singers, she could mistake the confetti for her relatives being killed and shredded, and she didn't know how to wink or move like the others.
  • This is also because the Exercise Bacon's only interested in exercising, not singing. But later, they both learn how to fix their problems and join the song.
• The talking inanimate objects, like the Sun, didn't appear either because they were not real Elmore residents.
• This is one of the many songs where Carmen sings like a female opera singer.
• While Masami is singing the song the whole time, she has eyelashes.
• Instead of hanging upside down like the other little guys (Idaho, Ocho, Clayton, and Anais), Anton just stands right side up in front of Joe and Tobias.
• Because Carmen is Alan's girlfriend, she's seen holding his balloon string the whole theme song, and Alan uses his string to hold her hand back.
