This portal page is pretty empty. How about putting something here? Any ideas? FreddyE 11:43, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Template Infoboxes
Are they possible? Like the ones you can create on Wikipedia where you make a template that is fed some parameters from the article the template is included in? -Plange 01:10, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think the work exactly the same here. For a non-working example see Template:Books Lcarsdata 08:17, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, they do work see Template:RMBBook for a working (work in progress) example and The Book of Beginnings for an exampe (again, another work in progress) of it in use.
- However, I for the life of me cannot figure out how to get it to the right side of the page with text flowing around it.--Ptdecker 05:22, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- I have modified Template:RMBBook to made the infobox float to the right of text by adding a style parameter to the table header. However, note that on The Book of Beginnings this makes the infobox overlap the stub box (although all the text in the stub box is flowed around the infobox to remain visible). If that is a problem you can try:
- moving stub elsewhere in the page
- surrounding stub with <div style="clear:right">…</div> tags
- tweaking Template:stub
- I leave the choice to you. -- Papa 09:35, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Background
I quite like Image:Wikibg.png as the background, but I'm not sure if it fits with the logo. Any other suggestions? Angela (talk) 05:45, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- I find the background atrocious and distracting, I think it should be a neutral color, the lines just bother me. Also, I'm not sure what the logo is supposed to be, it looks like a blood stain, but I doubt that's what it's supposed to be.--Nulo Perfekta 17:43, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Redesign
The pseduo-namespace idea was too complicated. Many people were not using it correctly, and just adding pages randomly all over the place. So, I have simplified the process, where all pages will have normal titles, and rely on categories instead. This makes it easier to get a list of related changes and allpages for each mini wiki. Angela (talk) 07:19, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Personal Wikis
I know the Wikicity creation policy doesn't allow personal wikis. Has that changed for scratch pad, or are they still too specific? Don Kirkby 22:05, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- The creation policy doesn't apply to Scratchpad, so personal wikis are ok here. Angela (talk) 09:16, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Images Uploading
Where is the link in the toolbox to allow for file uploads? I see the space for it, but it's empty, even if I'm loggued in.
I could understand that it's disabled in order to keep control over the content found on the scratchpad, but I would then strongly recommend to mention this on the main page of the scratchpad, as I've been looking for last 20 mins how to upload an image, and only realized why I couldn't when I opened the upload help page of wikia. The information wasn't the helper in this case, it was the toolbox menu that showed me where this link is supposed to be...--Thag 16:50, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Who's messing with Scratchpad
Seriously, what's going on, that background is atrocious. Tom Light 18:04, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Just trying out something different since one of the branding surveys said Wikia was too boring with a white background, so I tried out something different here (since this is wiki labs test area). Please add comments and suggested improvements to Scratchpad:Community Portal#Background. It doesn't have to be permanent. Angela (talk) 06:26, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Unnecessary use of namespace
Why does Wikia use such a complex namespace just for a scratchpad? Already the name "scrathpad.wikia.com" sais it all. Why is it then called "scratchpad of the scratchpad".
And even dubble "Scratchpad Wiki Labs" of the scratchpad?
Isn't it more wise to keep namespaces free for projects other than analysing Wiki itself? I signed up for the Wikilabs namespace and hope not to offend anyone with this namespace, but I think I can use it wisely to start an interesting Wiki. Lab is a very common and international word for a research-area, so I can't think of a better one that sais it all.
Therefore: Can't this scratchpad-area just be called scratchpad? And the space used for try outs called "try out" or "new wiki" or .... ?
Sincerely, Inge Habex 21:45, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- I don't understand what you mean. Where does it say "scratchpad of the scratchpad"? What exactly is it you're objecting to? What does "signed up for the Wikilabs namespace" mean? Angela (talk) 06:54, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- The scratchpad of Wikia has it's own padway: scratchpad.wikia.com. But I just figured out the internal communication in all wiki's will be proceeded by their own name. (en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Announcements)
- Scratchpad.wikia.com/Scratchpad Wiki Labs (Because of the missing ":" to announce this is internal communication about scratchpad itself, I thought a new main page was created under the name scratchpad)
- With "signed up for the Wikilabs namespace" I mean that I filed a request for the name Labs.wikia.com that in future could become Wikilabs if the format is successful. I just hope this request won't be rejected because the scratchpad is using the name Wiki Labs here. I think all Wiki suffixes should be used wisely, because they can be needed in future projects. Inge Habex 16:48, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Maybe things would be clarified if someone could explain the differences between pages on
- scratchpad (in general)
- mini wiki
- wiki labs
To me they all seem the same (aiming the same, having the same goals), therefore I wonder why several names are being used. Inge Habex 16:55, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- The namespace name doesn't affect any other wikis. However, your idea sounds like it duplicates w:c:academia. Angela (talk) 17:02, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- It's good to know that doesn't affect other wikis.
- Concerning the idea of Wikilabs (i don't know where else to discuss it): Academia is just a part of the aims of Wikilabs. Though Academia duplicates more or less WikiSci, created on 18 September 2004 but less developed than academia.
- Problem: I'm just afraid that by having tighter aims on Academia than was set up for Labs, the Wiki cannot grow to it's full potential.
- Transforming an existing Wiki into a more broad concept takes a lot of effort (not even mentioning all the debating with the current users and the sysop to get a consensus about the new format). So therefore I hope for some advice how to handle this idea / problem :-) Inge Habex 20:21, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Logo Part 2
- the new red font and inkspot logo. A suggestion would to use the same image, but flip the colors to yellow? or blue? Right now it looks like blood spatter
- and at least for me, the logo image does not line up with the background image, so the silver spiral rings are all askew. See Image:MrDolomiteScreenshot1.png

Main Page talk vs Community Portal
Ok, since I just spent 5 minutes looking for my own comment, I will toss it out there for the group. :) What's the difference between supposed use of Talk:Scratchpad Wiki Labs and Scratchpad:Community Portal? I would think that the answer is "None" and that Talk:Scratchpad Wiki Labs should become a redirect, just like Scratchpad talk:Community Portal is. At least then everything about discussing scratchpad would end up in the same spot. — MrDolomite | Talk 06:10, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- Since the two pages are serving the same purpose, I'm going to merge Talk:Scratchpad Wiki Labs with the community portal. Perhaps forums, like the Central Wikia forums would be better than this single page. What do you think? Angela (talk) 07:40, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- Ooh, that forum stuff is pretty slick, but then I can be easily impressed. :) It may be better to just have this be a plain wiki page though, so as to not overwhelm newer editors. It may be a good idea to have at least a test forum area here on scratchpad, so people (say, like me :) could give it a go. Thx. — MrDolomite | Talk 08:33, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

How do I get added to another Wiki?
Ok, since I am new at this, for a while now, one of my Scratchpad entries is approved to go to Disney Wiki or Gameinfo Wiki. My question is this, How do I get my scratchpad to be added to either Wiki? Sundogs 19:33, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- "Copy-and-paste" has a lot going for it in the wiki world. Or is your entry too big or too complex? (By the way, if you want maximum help in a forum or Talk page try to include links to whatever you are talking about.) Robin Patterson 06:41, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

It's eating away at everything else. Anyone else having this problem? If so, say so here. Please fix it soon if you can... --192.154.65.1 23:52, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- The actual logo is the same size as all wikis. Do you have problems on other wikis? Is it maybe the background that is causing problems? This is supposed to display over the whole page, but in the background. Angela (talk) 02:11, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
It is Like ANNOYING. Please do something about it please. Sundogs 08:03, 29 September 2006 (CDT)
- Ok... but can you explain exactly what is annoying? Is it the logo or the background? Are any other users having this problem? If you want to hide the background completely, just add
- body { background-image:none }
- to Special:Mypage/monobook.css. Angela (talk) 03:51, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
The Lady in the beach sceen picture was a little annoying due to the size of it. That is what I ment. Sundogs 08:28 CDT, 30 September 2006

Is it possible to add 'forms' to WS-Pad pages?
Perhaps a bit of a naive question... but I could not find anything on helps. I would like to add a 'form' - i.e. user enters 4 or 5 pieces of information, and these are submitted to a script engine which calculates a string output. Is this possible - or should the form be hosted off wikia / WS-pad? Roamingstudio 25th October 2006
- No, you can't do that on the wiki. Angela talk 12:28, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the prompt reply!
How do I remove a page?
Made a wrong page (wrong name), now I want to remove it, how can I do that? Haje 22:13, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- You can either move it to the right place using the [move] tab you see at the top of the page, or type delete on it and an admin will delete it later. Angela talk 06:25, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Admins?

Category:Culture
Why is the Culture category only about Middle Earth???? Can this be changed so that Middle Earth is a subcategory of Culture?--Judyb12 19:54, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Remember that the scratchpad wikia uses categories and articles shared by multiple mini-wikis. See . If you need to generate a list of articles which are both in (a generic category) and (the category for a single mini-wiki), then m:DynamicPageList can be used to help. — MrDolomite | Talk 23:14, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- The problem is that currently is not a generic category. Or am i missing something here? Go look at the category page and tell me what you think. Thanks. --Judyb12 08:21, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- Forget the whole thing. I have created a Middle Earth Culture category and moved all the articles (mostly stubs) into that, freeing up Culture. --Judyb12 09:03, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- Heh, by jove, I think she's got it. Good job being bold and coming up with a way to make the pieces fit. — MrDolomite | Talk 16:22, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Category Index Article
Maybe i'm going to seem a little category-focused here given that my only 2 posts are about category stuff, but that's life. I have created a category index here that is based on the Wikipedia category structure.
I know you can look at a list of categories, but i haven't found anything that showed the hierarchy and how they all work together. I am slowly (very slowly) adding links, category attributes, and sub-category pages as i come across the need (mostly by going to a "Random category" and working out from there), but it would be great if some other people would check this out, too. Feel free to move things around within the index. I am by no means an expert in all things, so i'm sure there are some headings that should be sub-categories of other things, etc.
Any main category pages that i have created have a link back to the index (like this one: Social Sciences & Society).
The area that probably needs the most work is all the stuff on role-playing games, so if you own a mini-wiki having to do with a game, i would really appreciate your help. Thanks! --Judyb12 21:12, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
