Darkseid[]
Darkseid is a fictional character, a supervillain in the DC Comics Universe created by Jack Kirby as part of the Fourth World series of comic books in the early 1970s. He first appeared in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 (November 1970). Darkseid has risen in popularity, and become one of the most powerful and well-known villains of DC Comics. As regards Darkseid's name, it is actually pronounced as "Darkside." In Young Justice #29, a young superheroine to whom he had introduced himself mistook his name for "Doug Side." In #42, Hal Jordan (as The Spectre) mentioned that this was an understandable error, as "he does sound a bit like Bela Lugosi when he speaks."
According to writer Mark Evanier, Jack Kirby modeled Darkseid on actor Jack Palance [1].
