Backstory: Charlotte is part of a Japanese American family who lives in a suburban area close to Metroville. Charlotte is the only person in her family to have two superpowers, conjuring magic spells and the ability to shrink to the size of a wasp. Growing up, Charlotte had become inspired by superheroes. Her favorite super, in particular, was Elastigirl, whom she looked to as her role model. Charlotte's father, Alan Hammond, had once been a former super known as the Raging Tornado who once worked closely with Elastigirl. At one point, Alan had decided to surprise Charlotte on her birthday by arranging for her to meet Elastigirl in person. However, on that fateful day, Charlotte and Alan were approached by a government agent who had told Charlotte that she could not meet Elastigirl because she, along with other fellow supers, had been forced into hiding as a result of supers being tangled with legal action. This destroyed Charlotte, because her only chance of meeting her superhero had been taken away from her.
In the days that followed, Charlotte fell into a depressed slump. One day, Alan was picking up Charlotte from school when he found her being bullied by some older boys. This made Charlotte angry, which made her shrink to tiny size and pull their hair. Then she used spells to silence them until they ran off. Of course, Alan was scolding Charlotte because pulling a stunt like that could get her caught. However, that changed when they were approached by a man named Winston Deavor. Charlotte told Winston her story, and he felt amazed about it. Winston then arranged to meet Charlotte and her parents face to face.
During a dinner, Winston told Charlotte and her parents that he represented a campaign to bring superheroes back on the radar. And after hearing Charlotte's story, Winston wanted to recruit Charlotte to be an advocate for supers. At first, Charlotte's mother Sadako was against the idea; she feared that this job could be potentially dangerous for her daughter. However, Winston reassured her that Charlotte would be under his care and tutelage. So Charlotte's parents finally agreed to it.
After getting a new suit and training her powers, Charlotte was ready to take on whatever situation she was given. However, it did not cross her mind that she would also be working alongside Elastigirl, who had also been recruited as well. Charlotte was overjoyed, because she could finally meet her hero.
