Dark Characters generally refer to characters who specialize in the power of umbrakinesis, which is the ability to use the power of darkness. It may also refer to their body/clothing colors, as well as their intentions and attitude.

Examples of umbrakinetic characters include Sauron, Master Xehanort, Darkrai, and Dark Bowser.

Dark Type Pokémon can also count for all of the above criteria.
