Transcript[]

Narrator: Edward was worried - so many workmen needed his branchline, but his old coaches weren't able to carry them all. Trevor did his best to help.

Edward: We need another engine to help run this line.

Narrator: But one day, Trevor didn't feel well and Bertie helped him to make him feel better. Edward was on his own. More workmen climbed into them into some went in his brake coach's luggage compartment.

Brake Coach: {shrieks} Help! I can't be able to move!

Workmen: We can't either! We're too squashed together!

Narrator: The coaches were fuller than ever before. It took Edward a minute or two starting.

Edward: {impatiently} Come on! Come on! Come ON! COME ON!

Narrator:' His wheels slipped on damp rails. Edward and his three coaches struggled hard as they could, until they came Gordon's hill. Thomas puffed hard as he could, but when he was almost at the top, it happened!

Edward: Help! I can't stop!

Narrator: The weight of old coaches was too much for Edward. Unluckily, Henry was coming with a mixed train, and when he saw Edward, he stopped abruptly!

Henry: Oh no!

Narrator: The brake coach smashed into Henry, and they stopped. The brake coach wasn't badly damaged, but Henry was quite hurt. Donald and Douglas arrived with Sir Topham Hatt.

Composite Coaches: Oh, dear!

Brake Coach: That means trouble, I think.

Sir Topham Hatt: Edward, Henry, I know it wasn't either of your faults, but we need another engine for Edward's branchline. And Henry's brakes have damaged. He must be sent to the Sodor Steamworks to have them replaced.

Edward: I'm sorry about your accident, Henry.

Henry: Never mind, Edward. I should've paid attention to the signal.

Narrator: Donald took Henry to the Steamworks, and Douglas took over Henry, and took some of Edward's workmen. Sir Topham Hatt tired dsperately to look for another engine, btu he had no luck. He eventually decided to give up. A few days later, Thomas and Percy stopped at Ballahoo Station to wait for Gordon's express. As he waited, he heard a buzzing noise coming from the platform. There was a rustling, and a loud crash. A man's head appeared in the hedge. He had a saw in his hands.

Man: Whew! It's nice to see the railway once more. It's been a jungle in here!

Narrator: Later, Thomas and Percy stopped there again.

A boy voice: Hello?

Narrator: Thomas and Percy were surprised. Thomas had heard it too. He looked over the hedge, and saw an old, broken down Furness Railway Class E1 2-4-0 tender engine. He was dirty and covered with cobwebs, and had a black boiler, one cab look-outs, no siderods, a dull red color, a leaking gray roof and three old, brown down railway coaches. They looked almost Victoria and Helena, expect they had 30, 18 doors, no wheels, dull red colors and leaking gray roofs.

Thomas: What's your name?

Fletcher: {shyly} Fletcher. I shared the same name as Edward. He was Fletcher. These are my coaches, Sally, Dulcy and Bertha. Are you Thomas?

Narrator: Before he could answer, the guard's whistle blew, and they had to go. At Wellsworth, Edward told Thomas and Percy about the workmen.

Edward: {sadly} I really need another engine.

Percy: {excitedly} But we just found one! He's in the tunnel. Sally, Dulcy and Bertha are in an orchard near the river, and they and Fletcher are old, and lonely...

Thomas: Sally, Dulcy and Bertha got no wheels and their roofs leak like a sieve. Don't even think about it.

Emily: Fletcher is very old and rusty.

Molly: He's red in his old railway.

Narrator: But Percy did think about it, and asked Sir Topham Hatt. Sir Topham Hatt listened, so made some arrangements for Edward, Sally, Dulcy and Bertha.

Sir Topham Hatt: Edward, it's going to be all right. Don't worry about another engine, I have decided that Sally and Dulcy will be converted to two composite railway coaches and Bertha will be one brake coach. the next morning.

Narrator: The next morning, Edward took Sally, Dulcy and Bertha to the Sodor Steamworks to be converted, and when he arrived to see Sally, Dulcy and Bertha, they looked the almost same on the outside, but different inside.

Edward: Sally, Dulcy and Bertha, is that you?!

Victor: Yes, it is, my friend. Sally, Dulcy and Bertha's all ready in her new look. We're working on Fletcher here.

Narrator: Edward looked to his left and saw a E1 tender engine

Fletcher: Hello, you must be Edward. I'm Fletcher. Your Sir Topham Hatt says I can be mended and work on the railway again.

{A crashing noise is heard.}

Victor: {groans} Kevin. What are you doing? How many times do I have to tell you - you don't drop things, you lower things! Slowly, slowly. Gently, gently.

Kevin: Yes, boss. Sorry, boss. I was trying, boss. Just a slip of my hook.

Narrator: Edward smiled at Kevin's mistake. Kevin was quite a clumsy road crane. For the next month, Fletcher, Sally, Dulcy and Bertha were restored to good as new.

{Montage of Fletcher, Sally, Dulcy and Bertha being repaired: Percy bringing new side rods for Fletcher, Emily bringing new windows for Sally, Dulcy and Bertha; Kevin crashing on his side, Victor sighs frustrated; the workmen fit new wheels on Sally, Dulcy and Bertha; a crane arm lowers Brittany onto her wheels; workmen repaints Fletcher a coat of blue paint with red lining. As this happens, "Showdown" from sbemail 117: montage plays.}

Narrator: At last, Fletcher, Sally, Dulcy and Bertha were ready. Thomas, Edward and Percy had come to see their prepare for their first trip in years. Sir Topham Hatt was there.

Sir Topham Hatt: There can't be many railways that have a train consisting of an engine and three coaches, but Fletcher, Sally, Dulcy, and Bertha are valuable members of my crew. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you three cheers to Edward and Fletcher's passenger train!

Crowd: Hip, hip, hooray! Hooray! Hooray!

Narrator: Now Edward is as happy as can be. He and his coaches take passengers along the branch line, and you will see Fletcher taking his coaches when Edward is busy. He knows he is very lucky, and so do his coaches.

Fletcher: This is much better than being a summerhouse in an orchard, and it's good to be useful again.

Narrator: I think we can be sure that Fletcher will be really useful for years to come.
