Duration | November 29 – November 30
Intensity | 45 km/h (30 mph) (10-min) 996 mbar (hPa; 29.41 inHg) |
On November 29th, a tropical low developed just off the coast of Australia. It remained weak and never strengthened and made landfall the next morning. The low rapidly dissipated during that day. $2 million resulted from the flooding due to the low. The low hit areas that would be hit again by Cyclones Elaine and Fletcher within the next month.

Duration | November 30 – December 4
Intensity | 130 km/h (80 mph) (10-min) 965 mbar (hPa; 28.5 inHg) |
On November 30, a tropical low developed far from land. It slowly strengthened and was named Elaine. It strengthened rapidly after that and reached it's peak of 80 mph (10-min winds) or 100 mph (1-min winds) and a pressure of 965 mbar. It retained peak intensity as it moved eastward- an unusual occurrence for a cyclone. It made landfall on December 3 near where Tropical Low One hit a few days earlier and remained stationary there as it slowly weakened. It finally dissipated on December 4, two days after landfall. Elaine caused $1.6 billion in damages in the area it hit. The storm broke a 43 year old record for the most amount of rainfall in 1 day by 6 times. Due to the damage, the name Elaine will be retired although a replacement name is currently unavailable and will be released after the season ends.

Category 4 tropical cyclone
(SSHS) | |||
| |||
Duration | December 8 – December 14
Intensity | 185 km/h (115 mph) (10-min) 925 mbar (hPa; 27.32 inHg) |
On December 9, a tropical low, which was previously in the Gulf of Carpentaria, strengthened into Tropical Cyclone Fletcher. Fletcher quicly strengthened rapidly as it remained stationary over the warm waters of the gulf. Three days later, on December 12, Fletcher reached it's peak with winds of 115 mph (10-min) or 145 mph (1-min) . It made landfall later that day at peak intensity causing heavy rains. Fletcher slowly crossed the peninsula as it dissipated. The tropical low degenerated into an area of remnant low pressure on the 14th which dissipated the next morning. Fletcher's damage was greater that Tropical Cyclone Elaine or Tropical Low One from earlier in the season with $5.6 billion in damages. However, there were no deaths as there was a good evacuation plan and warnings were issued. The name Fletcher was retired after this storm and will never be used ever again. Again, as Elaine, the replacement name is unknown.
Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle
Category 2 tropical cyclone

Category 1 tropical cyclone
(SSHS) | |||
| |||
Duration | December 23 – December 29
Intensity | 110 km/h (70 mph) (10-min) 973 mbar (hPa; 28.73 inHg) |
On December 23. another tropical low formed off Western Australia. It slowly strengthened and was named Gabrielle the next morning. After this, the strengthening rate increased and the storm reached it's peak intensity of 70 mph (10-min) or 80 mph (1-min) while quickly moving away from land. Gabrielle weakened into a tropical low on December 27 and became extratropical on December 29. The extratropical cyclone continued to move away from land and was absorbed by a large extratropical cyclone of December 31. Gabrielle caused no deaths and did only $13 million in damage ("only" is used because the previous storms were damaging).
